The PBA is working with Wessex Rivers Trust to ensure riparian owners can confidently identify and deal with Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) plants that might be growing in or along the Pillhill Brook. Liaising with Wessex River Trust and leading this work on behalf of the PBA Steering Group is Alan Ollerhead.
At the PBA's 3rd Annual Meeting on 25 April Courtney Brain Wessex Rivers Trust Test and Itchen Invasive Non-Native Species Project Co-ordinator shared her plans for tackling INNS along the Pillhill Brook.
Slide Presentation given at the PBA 3rd Annual Meeting on 25 April 2026
With the access permission of our riparian owners the first step will be a full survey of the Pillhill Brook from its source in Kimpton to its confluence with the lower Anton in Upper Clatford. From this survey a detailed catchment plan for our brook will be produced. Survey dates are Tuesday 30 June and Thursday 2 July.
Wessex Rivers Trust have produced a really useful Guide on Invasive Non-Native Species for the Test and Itchen which talks about how to identify 15 species threatening our rivers and some common sense biosecurity protocols. However we will be focusing on the four INNS plants that previous volunteer surveys have found.
