The Pillhill Brook is a headwater of the River Test in Hampshire. It flows through the picturesque villages of Kimpton, Fyfield, Thruxton, East Cholderton, Amport, Monxton, Abbotts Ann, Anna Valley and Upper Clatford before feeding into the River Anton. The Pillhill Brook is an iconic spring fed chalk stream; rising on chalk and then traversing through a gently rolling, low gradient chalk landscape. The upper reaches of the brook are classified as winterbournes as these rarely flow during the summer months but when flowing the brook is around 10 km in length. The map on our Monitoring page shows the course of the brook and its winterbourne sections.
The PBA’s 3rd Annual Meeting took place on Saturday, 25 April. The meeting celebrated achievements in our second year, which we’re sharing here. We couldn’t have done it without our volunteers. We thank them and the Watercress & Winterbournes Team for their work in the Test & Itchen headwaters since 2020.
We covered water quality and the results of our monthly monitoring sessions can be found on our Monitoring Results webpage.
The meeting then welcomed Courtney Brain, our Invasive Non-Native Species Project Coordinator at Wessex Rivers Trust, who outlined her plans for the identification and management of INNS plants in and along the Pillhill Brook. Find out more about this work on our INNS Surveys webpage.
